It is well-known that tangerines are sweet and delicious with abundant Vitamin C. Its peels are called “Chenpi” when used as medicine according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
The source of bitterness of Chenpi is called “limonoids”, which is represented by lemon glycosides and bitter elements. This kind of limonoids is mild, soluble and benefit for digestion. When cooking with tangerine peels, its bitterness will reconcile with other flavors, thereby produce a special taste.
Please note: The fresh tangerine peels contain lots of volatile oil, which may cause irritation for stomach. Besides, fresh tangerine peels do not have the same medicinal effects as Chenpi, so the fresh tangerine is not suitable for drinking. By opposite, the dried Chenpi is good for drinking.

I purchased this to add to my ripe puerh. My liking of chenpi began when I first tried a sample of Aged Chenpi Ripened Tangerine Puerh. I like the sample enough to place an order of the tea, and since I've received it, I think my enjoyment of chenpi with the puerh has only grown. It's such a comforting combination. So, of course, when I saw this chenpi on sale I jumped at the chance to purchase it to add to the ripe puerh that I already have on hand. Ripe puerh with chenpi always makes me happy. :)
Good mixer to add with other other teas.
