    Chinese Tea Areas

    Now tea is being planted in more than 50 countries all around the world.  Tea is also one of the world's top non-alcoholic beverages along with coffee and cocoa.  China is the hometown of tea, ancient people found the tea plant and made Chinese tea which can store for a long time.  Gradually the tea was spread all over the world.  China has a long history of planting and drinking tea and there are many types of teas.  China has widely distributed tea production areas which cover about 11,000 Km2.  It is divided into four tea production areas all around the country: Southwest tea area, South tea area, Jiangnan tea area, Jiangbei tea area.

    Southwest tea area

    It is located in southwest of China which includes Sichuan province, Yunnan province, Guizhou province and southeast of Tibet.  Southwest tea area is the eldest tea area in China with complex terrain and undulating mountains.  It mainly produces Green Tea and Puerh Tea and also one of the main places for developing large-leaf variety broken black tea.

    South tea area

    It is located in the south of China which includes Guangdong province, Guangxi province, Fujian province, Taiwan and Hainan province.  South tea area is the most suitable area for planting tea, with average annual temperature 19-20°C, abundant annual precipitation 1200mm-2000mm, fertile soil and abundant organic substance.  It mainly produces Oolong tea, White tea, black tea, flowering tea and Liubaocha.

    Jiangnan tea area

    It is located in the south of Changjiang (Yangtze) River which includes Zhejiang province, Hunan province, Jiangxi province and south of Anhui, south of Jiangsu and south of Hubei.  It produces about 2/3 of the whole tea outputs.  It mainly produces Green tea, black tea, dark tea, flower tea such as Xihu Longjing, Huangshan Maofeng, Dongting Biluochun, Junshan Yinzhen, Lushan Yunwu.

    Jiangbei tea area

    It is located in the north of Changjiang (Yangtze) River which includes Henan province, Shanxi province, Gansu province, Shandong province, north of Anhui, north of Jiangsu and north of Hubei.  It mainly produces Green tea such as Xinyang Maojian, Liuan Guapian and so on.
