Chinese Valentine’s Day

In oriental culture, there is also a “Valentine’s Day” in China, which is call as Qi Xi (七夕, qī xī). This is a traditional festival emerged and inherited from the thousands years of history of Chinese culture.
It is also said the Qi Xi was originated from the worship of time and nature in ancient times. In Chinese, 七 (qī) pronounces the same as the word 期 (qī). As they are homonymic, 七 can embody the same meaning with 期: expectation. Thus the term Qi Xi expresses the expectation between lovers of seeing each other.
