Lucky Yixing Zisha Stone Mill
Yixing (宜兴), Jiangsu Province, China
Lao Duan Ni (老段泥), Wood shelf
This Lucky Zisha Stone Mill owns good ornamental value when used as decoration; likewise, it is very convenient and practical when used as a teapot coaster.
This piece imitates the archetype of a traditional ancient Chinese stone mill, consisting of three parts: the top rotatable section, the center fixed bowl, and the wooden shelf. The top part of this Zisha mill is actually rotatable, with a removable handle, while the center bowl is fixed with a groove along it, intended to gather and pour the tea liquid. The structure is covered with fine patterns of a particular style of craftsmanship, each engraved one at a time by hand.
One of the reasons this stone mill is regarded as lucky is because in Chinese, the word for stone, 石, is a homophone of 时, for time and opportunity. This leads to the believe that turning the Zisha stone mill represents luck turning in your favor, with good fortune to come.
