Award Winning Tea
As one of the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink awards, the Great Taste, organized by the Guild of Fine Food, has been described as the food-world equivalent of the Oscars and the “epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize”. Teavivre is honored to be a part of this prestigious competition and we are ecstatic to announce that our Jasmine Golden Buds Black Tea has won 2 Star at the 2018 Great Taste Awards.
The judges’ overall comment on this tea: ‘Gorgeous leaf and tip, producing a wonderful aroma in a bright, coppery liquor. Almost Oolong in character, with bright, persistent jasmine delivery.’
Jasmine black tea is an innovative combination of jasmine flower and traditional black tea, which gives the tea both a jasmine fragrance and a black tea mellow taste. Traditionally, jasmine tea is mainly made of green tea. The reason why we don’t use black tea is that black tea belongs to fermented tea, when scented with jasmine flowers, the tea may easily get over fermented, so that may affects its good quality. Therefore, in order to make a successful jasmine black tea, the conditions of scenting and the selection of black tea buds must be very strict. For instance, the tea buds should be very tender, well-stretched, and are good at aroma fusion. Generally, a jasmine black tea which can be successfully scented over five times is very rare.
TeaVivre’s Jasmine Golden Buds Black Tea is made by the single tea buds of Yunnan large-leaf tea bush species, and scented with the jasmine flowers from Hengxian, Guangxi. This is the first jasmine flavored black tea in TeaVivre. When brewing, the first smell is its fresh jasmine fragrance, and it will never be overwhelming. The tea liquid is sweet, smooth and mellow. To have a cup of jasmine black tea at our leisure time, feeling the spread of jasmine and tea’s aroma in our mouth must be a joyful thing.
San Yin Yi Ti
After the tea leaves are scented with the budding jasmine flowers, these flowers are sifted out for the process to be repeated another three times, each with new flowers. Following this, the flowers with the strongest fragrance are added to the tea, with the aim of further enhancing the aroma and increasing the tea’s freshness and richness; this process is called “San Yin Yi Ti”.

Nanling Tea Garden is located along the eastern bank of Lancang River, with an average altitude of about 1500 meters. Around this garden are rolling mountains always enveloped in clouds and mist, with the perfect illumination, temperature, and rainfall for tea growth. In addition to this, only organic fertilizers are used, to ensure the safety and natural health of the tea.
Mr. Chen has been learning how to craft tea since he was 15 years old, and specifically with jasmine tea for over 40 years. It has become very familiar to him, and he does it in his own special style, widely sought after by tea lovers.
Mr. Chen has told us “Jasmine tea is one of the most complicated varieties in all of tea-making. With more scenting steps, the process becomes more and more complex, and so too increases the risk of ruining the tea. But on the contrary, it also results in a higher grade of jasmine tea if the scenting is successful. The buds picked in spring will be immediately processed and then stored in the freezer until the jasmine starts to bloom in the summer; because the blooming and time of strongest aroma of the jasmine occurs during the night, it is important that the scenting is done overnight. This often makes the tea workers exhausted… the entire process of making tea is hard, but if you love it, the hardship is worth it.”
